Untitled

America is now five years into the war and today my thoughts turn to those who serve.

To the family members who live without a loved one and who struggle to hold it all together.

To the women who make up 11% of the military force in Iraq and Afghanistan.

To those who return woundedare now homeless and/or struggling with the physical and mental impact of war...and to those who lost their lives.

May they not be forgotten or ignored by those of us who oppose this war or by those who support it.

To Andy C., MTT, KJM…y’all keep your heads up whilst you mend! Remember that you are the shit (wink), a bitch is pulling for you and there’s Gooey Butter Cake and a seat at my table should you ever visit St. Louis.

He who learns must suffer. And even in our sleep pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. (Aeschylus)

‘till we study war no more…

Thank you for reminding everyone of our bro/sis fighting in another unpopular war...I have yet to see any militiary walking by that I don't say Thank You to, buy a meal, or just smile & give a thumbs up...they are the heros that say it is 'just their job'..amazing!

(omg, I didn't know u could still get Goodey Butter in St. Louie..rolling eyes & dying here!)

For almost two years now I've been honoring black women of color falling soldiers (it's my personal choice). It hurts combing through all the faces of so many brave men and women. I hurt for their family and loved ones. When will this end?

agreed...i think while everyone is protesting and speaking out against the war we forget that the ones who fight didn't choose this war...

it's their job...and they do their job...

it's our job to make sure that they are fighting just wars...that their job isn't the wrong one...

and we, as a country, are not doing our job.

thank-you for posting about this.

Americans nearly always forget to include the million-plus dead Iraqis, their grieving parents, their orphans and widows, their broken and shattered lives and communities.

When you stack a million dead against four thousand, well....
