Scooter B. wants Cuba to or is that too...

Let’s just jump right on in, shall we?

Scooter B. (President Bush to the uninitiated) has delivered a sorta-speech on Cuba.

Close eyes…pray for strength…continue.

Specifically, Scooter B. talked about the government he envisions for a post-Castro Cuba.

Blink.

A bitch is always fascinated when political leaders from this country openly discuss their plans for the governments of other countries. Lawd have mercy, they don’t even bother getting their Operation Mongoose on anymore!

Anyhoo…

Scooter B. spoke.

Gulp.

“Now is the time to stand with the Cuban people as they stand up for their liberty. And now is the time for the world to put aside its differences and prepare for Cuban's transitions to a future of freedom and progress and promise."

As long as “prepare for Cuban’s transitions to a future of freedom and progress and promise” isn’t Bushified code for actively work to bring about the second coming of Batista.

Pause…wait for Scooter B.’s minions to Google Batista…continue.

Shouldn’t Cubans decide how they want to live without the selfish influence of the American political machine?

And freedom, progress and promise are not the history of the United States of America’s influence in the Caribbean and I doubt we’ll break the cycle of fucking up with post-Castro Cuba.

Blink.

Go on….

"The dissidents of today will be the nation's leaders. And when freedom finally comes, they will surely remember who stood with them."

Blink followed by blink followed by blink.

Now how the fuck does Scooter B. already know who the free people of Cuba will elect to leadership?

Oh…right…my bad.

Continue!

"As with all totalitarian systems, Cuba's regime no doubt has other horrors still unknown to the rest of the world…. “Once revealed, they will shock the conscience of humanity, and they will shame the regime's defenders and all those democracies that had been silent."

Perhaps…but then again we know a little something about remaining silent to the human rights offenses perpetrated by a strategic ally, don’t we?

Fuck milk.

Got shame?

And while we search the barren shelves of our ethical fridge…cough…a bitch submits that it is a mistake to view Cuba as a nation that was free and then was taken over by Castro and will once again be free. Cuba writhed under the economic corruption and repressive dictatorship of our friend Batista…and the Cuban people suffered for America’s gain.

If we owe Cubans anything, it is an acknowledgement of our role during Batista and our role during Castro, so that the citizens of Cuba…the poor and the workers who get spoken for but are rarely allowed to speak…can decide from a place of knowledge whether they want us to have a role in Cuba’s future.

Colonies are built on the hopes and dreams of distant governments…

…free societies are built by the people, for the people and are of the people.

Oooh ABB, it's a good thing I'm heading for a massage.

"--horrors still unknown to the rest of the world."

Has this man gone back on coke --again?

Abu Ghraib, Katrina, rendition,--all horrors the rest of the world knows about and he's not in a prison 100 yards under the earth yet . . .

The hubris. The universe is rumbling at this idiot.

If only the universe would shrug and tip the idiot off.

Hey, HEY! Don't you get it?
90 miles off the coast of Florida sits a gold mine that the American corpo-fascists have been drooling over for years now.
When the opportunity happens, they will strike like starving cobras poised on the side of the trail.

He was not talking to Cubans in Cuba - he was talking to Cubans in Miami. The Republicans need the Cubans in Miami to win in 08. But a lot of Cubans here are not so stupid as to not know that the Republican party is the redneck "all immigrants suck, and we should shoot everyone who speaks Spanish" party. Yet - many Miami Cubans are still Republican.

It is because Kennedy was a Democrat, and they blame him (and therefore all Democrats) for the failure of the Bay Of Pigs invasion.

Oh yea, in 2000 Al Gore carried Miami-Dade County be several thousand votes.

Anyhow - the "dissidents" are all here. Well most of them are here. The ones Bush was talking about are here. And they DO think they are just going to go back and take over the government there. They have planned this since the day they came over here all those decades ago.

The people on the Island now do not count. They are not educated enough to be informed. Only the Miami exiles know enough to govern the place.

I give the new Cuba 15 years before there is another revolution and another Castro takes over if the Miami crowd are allowed back in to set up shop.

Thank you for making the point that the U.S. involvement in the Caribbean has NEVER been one of 'democracy, peace or liberty.'

Bush's interests in Cuba, in my opinion, lie in the stabilization of South, Central American, Caribbean and North American trade liberalization. He doesn't give a shit about the Cuban people having freedom, etc. I mean fuck, he doesn't care about whether or not his OWN people have a little freedom.

Maybe he wants Cubans to be the new Tainos...turning Cuba into a new American Commonwealth colony (like Puerto Rico)?

Ass-faced bastard.

Castro's response was highly prescient, I though. Although this isn't it verbatim, the sum total of what he said was "I'm sure you'll do as good a job here in Cuba as you're doing in Iraq."

Well played, Fidel.

I believe like Lazy that The Shrub was speaking to Cubans in America.

But it still doesn't detract from his usual fuckwittery and propaganda message.

They've found OIL in Cuba.

No matter WHO is President next time - that embargo is GOING.

Now, if it's a Democrat, they'll just lift the embargo.

But, if it's a Rethug, then get ready for Bay of Pigs II.

Either way, the OIL companies are getting into Cuba.

PERIOD.

Remember also, while he was talking to the Cubans in MIAMI - he has to shore them up, because this Governor has re-instated the voting rights of ex-felons, and the assumption is that they'll break Democratic, so they're trying to shore up among the Cubans.
