Political hair update, post trim and color…

By the way, a bitch went ahead and added color to my political hair statement.

I’m not vain, but…well, my Afro is now fantastically fantabulous.

Speaking of political statements, my stylist gave me a blow out so she could get her trim on.

Felt right, y’all…and militant as hell!

Mayhap I’ll take pictures…if I can find C-Money's camera (wink)…

I would love to see a picture of your afro. What color did you add?

Color? Ooooooooh ...

You should know that, thanks to your recent writings, a collection of six black women, all with "political hair," gathered together with one white gay guy (me) and shared many laughs over the political nature of our hair-dos last night over fruity cocktails in DC.

We'd have done a bitch proud, I'd say.

(We decided that since my hair wasn't processed either, it was also a political statement, tho' perhaps a little more subtle.)

I pay good money for all these 'natural curls' I have on my head. I used to dye it until one of the hairdressers told me doing both is a big no-no. Pick one of the other.

I stuck with the curls. Screw the gray, there ain't much and in the right light it looks like highlights. Or thats what I tell myself now anyway.

This is off topic and so not necessarily for posting, but I thought you might like this quote from Max Roach, the legendary jazz drummer who recently passed away:

“I will never again play anything that does not have social significance...We American jazz musicians of African descent have proved beyond all doubt that we’re master musicians of our instruments. Now what we have to do is employ our skill to tell the dramatic story of our people and what we’ve been through.”

Is suffering a wee bit of hair envy- as i let my neighbor practice with her clippers on me. Yeah i know you get what you pay for..yadda yadda yadda. Times like this its good not to have to go out. sigh.....

Luckily the worst buzz cut (political hair - here) of my life is growing out pretty fast and i do own more than a few hats. Bad Hair however will not silence me - ever. Nor cause me to post as anon. Got to love the internets for some things.

I had my 'fro colored and blown out too! My hairdresser (and me too) doesnt like to cut curly hair, so I had to let him get his blow on. Its been interesting to maintain this straight look in summertime DC, but hey, I got what I wanted - a great cut!
