On the subject of Michael Vick...

As some of you know this bitch is a dawg guardian to two sorta-beagles and dawg aunt to one gorgeous chow shepherd mix.

I’m not able to discuss dog fighting or Michael Vick without feeling stroke-ish.

I’ll leave the commentary to Rikyrah at Jack & Jill Politics, who I think did a fine post on this topic.

And I urge you to support the work of Stray Rescue of St. Louis, as I personally will, in memory of the animals that lost their lives for the abomination of dog fighting.

I had to write a 1000 word essay on the subject of Vick and dogfighting today ABB, for another site I write for.

It was probably the hardest thing I have ever had to write about..because it IS personal to the animal lovers like us.Even men are emotional about this subject.

Why does it seem that so many black folks are supporting Vick, and, therefore, supporting, or at least, condoning dogfighting?

A lot of us are not, but some are.

I think there's a bit of knee jerkification going on and some folks feel that Vick is another brother being taken down by The Man.

Not so.

I look to the Jena Six and see racial injustice. I look to Vick and see an abusive arrogant spoiled shell of a man.

But God don't like ugly...and he will answer for this one way or another.

Here is a piece on Alternet that takes the public to task for judging Vick in the court of public opinion, its called The Crucifixion of Michael Vick:

The thing is..there was less than a month between the indictment and his guilty plea. I refused to sign the 'pledges' that wanted to take Vick's livlihood away before he had a trial. I hate what he was charged with but he had the right to defend himself from these accusations.

Now, we will never know if it was merely his friends rolling over on him or if the Govt actually had hard evidence on him because he too copped a plea.

Dusty,
We never really know anyway.

All I can say is that if anyone accused me of dog fighting I'd fight them until my last living second...which is what Mr. Vick originally said.

And we're not talking about my broke ass...we're talking about a wealthy sick rich football player with top legal representation.

So, I'll say it again...look to the Jena 6 to see the shame of racial injustice not Michael Vick.

Mr. Vick and his soft as hell plea-based sentence had the kind of legal representation only money can buy.

In no way should any one of us be subjected to the injustice system of this or any european controlled nation. Their culture and background is taken into consideration when they are being judged. Their wrongdoings are swept under the rug. It does us a disservice to publicly condemn our own, especially when it helps the 'man' to take a brother or sister down.

I am of black culture and proud of it, so do not presume to chastize me on this topic.

Black culture and black people are insulted when brothers and sisters attempt to justify this shit through it.

I know who and from whence I have come...and I am of a proud culture that finds glory in life and the expression of survival...not dog fighting.

Blessed be...
