In my July 27, 2005 post War and Peace I wrote about the death of Army Pvt. LaVena L. Johnson.
Shakespeare’s Sister has reported a follow-up on how the Johnson family is challenging the report that Pvt. Johnson committed suicide.
Pvt. Johnson’s father, Dr. Johnson, is requesting an investigation. He has been adamant from the beginning that he believes his daughter was murdered. As reported on KMOV, the evidence points to Pvt. Johnson having been the victim of foul play.
LaVena Johnson was the first woman soldier from Missouri to die while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan.
She died at 19 years old near Balad, Iraq, on July 19, 2005.
Please take a moment to read the post at Shakespeare’s Sister and to contact your Senator if they are listed as being on the Armed Services Committee.
Thanks.

My God!!!
Glad to see that someone else is on top of this. I also was posting all over the internet about this right after it happened...but I was afraid to push too far. I'm glad to see that you were on it as well. This was before I even discovered your site....so this is a pleasant surprise.
At the time, it seemed as though the family didn't want to push too hard and they accepted the results of that shady investigation. Good to see that they decided to search for more answers.
This is one of the cases that haunts me about this war. I think about it all the time.
The circumstances around this death were very strange. I saw red flags immediately!!!
From what the family stated regarding the report... I don't believe that the suicide was possible.... Both from the standpoint of the young lady's personality (she did not appear to be a suicide candidate) and from the standpoint of the actual shooting.... it would have been scientifically/physically difficult for her to have killed herself....based on the information available.
I still suspect some sort of rape/sex assault and they killed her to cover it up...and they made it look like a suicide...and the bastards got away with it. OR she was a witness to some sort of crime...and they were not comfortable with her knowing what she knew, so someone in the military killed her.
I now feel sorry that I didn't follow up more aggressively on this... However, I did write some newspapers about it...to try to get someone to cover it.
Please stay on this case!
I wish my representative was on the list! I hope her death gets investigated; I worry about all the people we don't know to investigate who died.
This is another clearcut case o "who are you going to believe me, or you lying eyes?" We are again asked to believe something that all the evidence and our common sense says can't be so. The questions are who killed her?, and WHY?
There must be pressure brought to get justice for Laveda and her family.
I'm the writer of the ShakesSis post on LaVena Johnson; thank you very much for writing about it here.
I have started a web-based petition to the Armed Services Committees of the Senate and the House, asking them to compel the Army to reinvestigate LaVena's death. There is an accompanying website where other action items and info are available.
Also, I'll be interviewed on The Sloan Ranger Show tomorrow night (March 9) at 6:15 p.m. regarding LaVena. That's WGNU 920 AM in St. Louis, but the show can be heard over the Internet as well. Call-ins are welcome.
Thanks again for your writing on LaVena!
I'm all over this, too.
