Ain’t I a black woman?

I just read another in a long pathetic line of “is AngryBlackBitch really a black woman?” posts and for some reason this one pissed me the hell off.

I should link to it…but some of y’all UCoB&LDD members are crazy (wink) and Lawd only knows what you’ll do to the severely misguided.

When will we as people stop judging each other based on a stereotype of how we act and what we do that most black people don’t fit into?

Jesus, Mary and Joseph...a bitch is tired of this shit.

For the record...

A person can speak French and be black. I don’t…would love to learn…but if I did I’d still be black.

A person can be LGBT and be black at the same time (gasp).

A person can be interested in Russian politics and be a black woman.

A person can adore hockey and hate basketball and still be black.

A person can be a feminist and be black.

A person can curse, swear and write sentences laced with potty mouth words and be black.

A person can be conservative and be black. I try to convert them whenever possible (wink) but they are black people.

A person can listen to country music and be black.

A person can have no motherfucking rhythm whatsoevah and be black.

There are black people in Sweden…black people can like math…black people can be foodies…black people can be goth.

A person can be something totally outside of your expectations...and they will still be black.

I am, have been since birth and will forever be a black woman.

Recognize or get thee gone forever from this place of bitchitude!

Thou shall not trifle...

Shark-fu -- no -- you go to far! I cannot accept it! You mean black people are . . . are . . . . are . . . diverse?!?!?! *faints dead away*

Seriously, bitch -- won't you at least give me a hint about that thread? I'm in a "new-asshole-ripping" kind of mood today. ;)

Ok, I'm not black, I am a woman, I've been lurking here a few weeks after somebody sent me your link...anyway, I read this:

I just read another in a long pathetic line of “is AngryBlackBitch really a black woman?” posts and for some reason this one pissed me the hell off.

And then I just gotta wonder why anyone would doubt.

Yep! I speak five languages and have studied abroad in several different countries ( 4, if anyone truly cares). I am still black. I am still from Detroit. When will we learn?

Thanks for putting this issue out there!

um abraço.

As always, a very insightful post. You should cross post this at Firedoglake...

Shark-Fu said...

Oh, and get this - the asshole suspects that a bitch is a trust fund deb pimping some faux blog image so as not to fuck up my job.

Blink.

That may have been funny if a bitch wasn't floating bills to get Ms. SisterGirl Cabrio an oil change. Since I'm broke that ignorant shit pissed me off to no end!

I've loathed bigoted insecure grammar snobs since college and he's a text book example of one...

Shark-Fu said...

Steelhead,

Thanks. How on Earth does one cross post at Firedoglake? Mayhap a bitch will figure that out...

Black Goths? Really?? In St. Louis??? But that would mean black folk would be raising lame and whiny kids who get into feeling sorry for themselves. Say it isn't so!

The Lazy Iguana said...

If you were a trust fund case - you would not need a job and therefore would have no job to fuck up!

I heard your segment on NPR. Based on that, I am 99.99% sure you are in fact a woman and black.

If people can not counter the message, they attack the person.

PS I really am a large typing green lizard who likes warm climates and just wants to hang out all day.

Jeffrey Ricker said...

Pause. Gasp. Clutch pearls.

What?! You never told me you were black!

Shark-Fu said...

Jeff, I'm sorry you have to find out this way after working with me for years.

Yes.

I am black.

Blink.

Are those my pearls?

Shark-Fu said...

Okay, one more thing and then I'm done.

The guy who wrote the post that pissed me off is some sort of teacher.

I'm serious.

A teacher (shudder).

Be afraid.

Be very afraid.

I think we've found our poster child for home schooling...

Melody said...

I've been dealing with this kind of ignorant bullshit for since Jesus was a boy. I'm so glad you posted this. WTF? A teacher, damn, that's just sad, but all too common.

She ain't really black. We found her in a cabbage patch and smuggled her into the penthouse under our nanny's nose. Mummy and Father were kind enough to keep up the pretense after we announced we were keeping her. We threatened to call the other members of the club and rat on them about all manner of malfeasance if they didn't give her a dowry and a debut. Pamela is truly a Pamela, so her manners must be forgiven.

Selah.

Wah da fah? I've been reading ABB for a while now and this thought never once crossed my mind.
Is it because you, uh, "speak so well" ABB?

I'm impressed you've been able to keep up with your blackface makeup regime. It must be annoying to have to cover every inch of your pasty-white skin just to go out for a drink.

Hey...I'll bet you're not angry or a bitch either :-)

And it takes a lot of nerve for that moron who would question you to call himself a teacher.

Some people....

Long time lurker here finally de-lurking.

I read the post you refer to (Technorati is my friend) and shit like that pisses me off to no end. I've written time and time again about the "black police" and the "grammar police." The thing that gets me is that this shit is always hurled at women and particularly black women. I have never, in my three years of blogging, had anyone question my blackness or my "veracity" because of grammar, despite the numerous mistakes I make on my blog all the time, despite the fact that I post rock and roll videos on my blog all the time. And I've made it clear that I'm a grad student in English. I teach writing classes for chrissakes! Folks might have a point if they asked about *my* blogging style. They'd be wrong and I'd tell 'em so, but still. And yet, when it's a woman, say you or Blackamazon, especially a woman with strong views that doesn't pull punches, all of the sudden folks get all persnickity about grammar and run-on sentences. WTF?

So yeah, I think a lot of times gender plays into this nonsense. There's some subtle misogyny going on there as well.

Just my two cents.

"...can love hockey and be black..." You're just feeling frisky because your Blues are actually doing well this season... my Red Wings will still whomp on them come playoffs, but it's nice to give hope to the masses every once in a while.

Ah, yes - hockey trash talking. Gotta' love it! And don't forget to mark January 18th on your calendar to raise a drink to Willie O'Ree!

How dare you step outside the box!!! Don't you know people need their stereotypes, lives depend on it. If you aren't who they think you are, who are they? whose life is a lie?

Ok, so as an angry white bitch, I decided to google "Angry White Bitch" and guess what? Nada. Nothing. Lots of Angry White men, boys, male, men, etc. Not sure what this means exactly but the need for people to constantly categorize especially when they represent THE/A standard/norm makes me insane.

FWIW, the idea of ABB sprouting from a cabbage patch is pretty fucking awesome ;-)

In pissy bitchitude,

AWB

Doesn't that get old for people? So my daughter is a classical piano major, non-church-goer, who speaks fluent Hungarian, near-fluent German, and is learning Arabic. Oh, and she's been told she's "so well spoken" in English, can't forget that. She attends an HBCU. I'll let her know she may have to turn in her Black card, according to your mystery poster.

Mystery poster is obviously threatened by what you have to say, it coming in a package that's outside his/her understanding.

You beat me to it. "Charley Pride, the pride of country music" is how they introduce him.

So, yeah, you make me laugh. Black Goth. That's got to be something. The little gothlings around here are always SO pale...translucent, almost.

Shark-Fu said...

Lacey...

I have it from a black goth that she is so goth she was born black.

Fantabulous!

Mayhap a darker shade of pale is coming to a goth gathering near you...

This was too funny.

You can be a

country loving

when you aren't listening to opera

when you aren't listening to musical theater

when the most famous Black tennis player when you were growing up was Zina Garrison

when the most famous Black golf star was Lee Elder

Yet, you watched it every week.

You stared at Debi Thomas on your Betamax tapes because you couldn't believe that a Black person was on the ice skates, after dragging your parents to ice skating shows, where you were the only pepper in a sea of salt..

When your idea of fantasy vacations is the Alaskan wilderness and going to Antarctica

And, yet, you are still Black.

SagaciousHillbilly said...

Damn! Caught in my web of deceit. I was hoping you'd forget about Charlie Pride.
And I didn't figure you knew my old buddy Jim who once lived down the road from me and delivered concrete to some of my jobs. . . blaring that damn country music every time he'd pull up while I was playin some Mississippi blues on the box.
