Long time readers know that this bitch is a huge hockey fan and it will come as no surprise that my ass is watching the battle for Lord Stanley's Cup on the telly right now.
And who should come 'cross my television screen at intermission?
Don fucking Cherry!
Rock 'em sock 'em hockey himself.
Pause...watch Cherry go off for a second or two...continue.
Why am I craving KFC now?
Anyhoo...
He took over the show and called for the return of fights in the NHL.
Blink.
Somehow I don't see players making a run on foil just yet.
But fuck it if that wasn't worth a laugh.
Come on Ottawa!

My friend used to have curtains with the same pattern as the jacket with the poppies on it that Don wore to Friday nights game. Just an observation.
I gotta say...I don't get to stop by here often, but I love reading your stuff every time I do!
Just when I thought you couldn't get any cooler, you go and pull out a Slapshot reference.
So sorry, but we're Anaheim all the way.
And the first thing my elder son said when he walked into the room during the second intermission was, "Why is Col. Sanders on the TV?"
He's 16. I didn't know he even knew the chicken-king's name.
Oh, Don Cherry has been advocating for the return of fights in hockey for some time.
He and Brett Hull were both "thugs" in their hockey-playing days.
However, as much as I don't agree with some of his opinions, Cherry was a very good coach in his day and his recaps of plays during the period are astute. The man knows his hockey strategy.
I'm temporarily living outside of Canada, and I hadn't realized how much I had missed hearing Cherry's rants and his, uh, "expressive" wardrobe.
ABB,
You never cease to amaze me - all that bitchitude and a hockey fan - coolness! I don't care much for Don Cherry - he's always slamming Sid Crosby. Why? Who knows? Maybe he's just jealous. Here in Pittsburgh we just love Sid... all that scoring and one class act. Don Cherry isn't good enough to carry Sid's jockstrap.
Go Ottawa!

Geogrrl, do you mean Bobby Hull?
Karl, I remember Bobby Hull (I was a little kid at the time) as being a great hockey player. He could dish out the physical stuff if need be, but he was an extremely talented player. I checked Brett Hull's stats and you're right--he was a talented player with a very good career. Perhaps I remember Brett as being more of a thug because he also advocates bringing back fighting.
Personally, while I understand that hockey is a rough game and tempers flare, I was really tired of the degree of fighting under the old rules. It seemed like play was being stopped every few seconds for fights. The games lost momentum and became boring.
