By request, my thoughts on Glenn Beck’s show’s emaciated advertising…

A certain someone asked for my thoughts on Color of Change’s successful campaign to challenge advertisers to drop their support of Glenn Beck’s show on FOX.

Beck said all manner of ig’nant race baiting shit on his show when President Obama spoke out about the arrest of Professor Gates. He even went so far as to call Obama a racist and go on and on about how the President, who is himself half white and was raised by white people, has serious issues with white people.

Blink.

Beck offers up an opportunity to observe that saying you’re something (a thinker) and being that thing (thinking) are often two different things.

The Color of Change campaign offers up a reminder that freedom of speech does not include freedom from a response. Hell, the town hall meeting-based drama demonstrates that folks can and often do respond and we won’t always like what come out of their mouth or how they spit when shouting (wince).

Beck freely spoke.

Color of Change and others have issued a response.

And now Mr. Beck is experiencing what this bitch likes to call the Howard Stern (when he was on traditional radio) Syndrome – big ratings, controversial programming and freshly printed listing on advertisers’ Do Not Buy list.

As my father often said, money talks and bullshit walks…

Well, he's gained one regular viewer over here, er, me, and the more advertisers who drop him the better because, honestly, 'Shark-Fu', the ad breaks on American TV are endless!

Also, in this case I suspect that 'white man speak with straight tongue' but I wouldn't expect you to agree with that.

I thought better of you, m'dear! But then again, I don't know you from Adam.

And this is more a case of white man speak with forked tongue, but I wouldn't expect you to see that...

Lawd, no...a bitch is putting off any run for public office for now. Unless that's a run for Ruler of the Known Universe!

"I suspect white man speak with straight tongue"...give me a break..that is the reason many many white folks joined the grass-root movements in the 50's. We didn't want to be associated with the ignorance that passes for intelligence and spouted by our ppl in the media, tv, radio. Just like a person telling a racist joke, we will NOT just stand by saying THIS is not acceptable but will show that there are ways to pay for your ignorance. You set yourself up..you pay the price. Hooray for the sponsors that pulled their support!

So speaking out against craziness like being arrested for being in you rown house makes the President a racist, white people hater somehow? How is the connection made? How are the dots connected? They aren't and that is the problem with Beck and these others. If they actually made logical comments and connections it would be one thing but they always seem to come out of left field and then want everyone to agree with them. They are spinning their own kind of logic that makes no real sense but gets ratings and people to talk about whatever their new "insight" of the day is. Everything is about the ratings and when that becomes your litmus test then you are lost. Let's have some real conversations.

I definitely agree with what Color of Change did, and appreciate your bringing it up. I think it is also very important that you described why it is not a terrible thing, what Color of Change did in responding to the racism of Glenn Beck.
You have broadened my knowledge, and I hope others will get as much as I did from it. Thank you.

Take some time and read this below.

I am a life long democrat.

If you are aware that the changes we are experiencing are moving us away from being AMERICAN then read this as you ARE an American and enjoy the freedoms that you have had since your birth and now, for some reason, it appears that we will all lose in the end.

To Congress, The 5 Pledges

1. I believe in a balanced budget and therefore will vote for a freeze in government spending until that goal is realized.

2. I believe government should not increase the financial burden on its citizenry during a difficult economic times, therefore I will oppose all tax increases until our economy has rebounded.

3. I believe more than four decades of US dependence on foreign oil is a travesty, therefore I will support an energy plan that calls for immediately increasing usage of all domestic resources including nuclear energy, natural gas and coal as necessary.

4. I believe in the sovereignty and security of our country and therefore will support measures to close our borders except for designated immigration points so we will know who is entering and why. I will vehemently oppose any measure giving another country, the United Nations, or any other entity power over US citizens.

5. I believe the United States of America is the greatest country on earth and therefore will not apologize for policies or actions which have served to free more and feed more people around the world than any other nation on the planet.

I pray that we all wake up!
