Good article. Although the comments weren't as hateful and stupid as they are on most news articles but there were some ignorant comments on there from the unenlightened. Great work Shark-Fu

Congratulations, Shark-fu.

I like how the comments there are more literate but just as ignorant as in the US.

"Okay, okay, it happened. So what? I'm tired of hearing about it!"

I can't imagine comments like that coming from anyone who had ever been arrested for no good reason.

Fabulous - congratulations! Guess that proves I'm a genius for locating a wise and witty writer on the web.

Even so, mainstream America may have been able to continue to ponder whether the majority of America is now post-racial if it were not for the pesky fact that America regularly demonstrates that it is not a post-racial society.

Best quote ever.

Hi Pamela,

It was a very good piece in the Guardian. I agree with you that - as with the 'End of Art' and 'End of History' and 'End of Politics' debates - the post-racial society myth is not only unfounded, but papers over the actual and continued racism that seems to be built into American society (and the rest of the world).

The day I read your piece (Aug 1st) I saw a photo-exhibition in Birmingham UK called 'Obama's People', based around photos by Nadav Kander. Maybe you've already seen the photos, but here's my write up anyway, in which you're mentioned:

I read the Guardian, and I saw your photo and thought, 'That's Shark-Fu!' Good article.

I totally was going to say what Mark said (but he said it better): "I like how the comments there are more literate but just as ignorant as in the US."

Congratulations!

Why is it this type of thing only happens to black people? I can't remember the last time a white man was arrested for breaking into his own house.

Powerful commentary that many people probably don't want to hear. I'm glad you did.

It's well documented that black people as more likely to be the subject of police harassment than whites. This case might be an example but there is no evidence to conclude that. Crying "Wolf" without knowing the facts can only serve to delay the advent of a post-racial society. Your article was so unconvincing that my first reaction when I read it was that you might be a right wing agent provocateur.

Ahem.

Robert,

I feel bad now 'cause you gave me a seriously good laugh and there you are unconvinced.

Blink.

Fuck it!

Thanks for the laugh...

Not a paricularly convincing reply Shark-fu. Have you got some evidence the rest of us don't know about or are you still operating on your suspicions?

Oh, I'm sorry!

You thought that I was going to write another piece in the comment section to defend the piece I wrote in The Guardian.

FYI, The Guardian piece is chock full of links and all you have to do is click on them and read all the specificity that I didn't have the space to offer (that's why we do those links but also try to write for the printed version which will not have them).

Beyond that, I'm not inclined to get into the back and forth you crave any more than you are inclined to agree with me.

So let's skip it and you can pretend we did...

Nice of you to freshen up Mr Jack's commentary corner with your 'letter from America'

I can see that I have some back copies to catch up with, so I might not get around to visiting the boutique for some time....
