They just voted to bar Planned Parenthood health centers from all federal funding for birth control, cancer screenings, HIV testing, and other lifesaving care.
Click here and sign Planned Parenthood's open letter and it will be sent every single representative in the House who voted for this rancid legislation and to every senator who must now stop it!
I went to bed mad as hell…
Anti-choice members took to the floor with lies and inaccurate information about Planned Parenthood in an attempt to justify legislation that would defund the healthcare provider’s Title X funding.
Pro-choice champions took to the floor and kept it real – defunding Planned Parenthood would prevent the delivery of life saving cancer screenings, STI and HIV/AIDS testing, and contraception and counseling services.
Trying to defund Planned Parenthood benefits no one, helps no one, and serves no one.
Actually doing it would have a devastating impact on communities across America.
I watched and listened as those elected to represent the people used the people’s time to pander to the far right and…well, it made me mad as hell.
This is about politicians playing political games with people’s lives.
If you want to reduce the STI infection rates in your community…if you support proven prevention programs – stand with Planned Parenthood.
If you want to reduce the number of abortions by reducing the number of unplanned pregnancies – stand with Planned Parenthood.
If you have ever been a client and benefited from their services – STAND WITH PLANNED PARENTHOOD!
If you know that early screening for cervical and breast cancer saves lives and money – stand with Planned Parenthood.
If you live in a community where access to healthcare providers is limited – stand with Planned Parenthood.
If you believe know that the best place for a woman’s healthcare decisions is in her own hands - stand with Planned Parenthood.
If you trust women – stand with Planned Parenthood.
Take action and tell Congress to hold up, step back and cease wasting the people’s time on bad policy and political games.
For 95 years those opposed to reproductive justice have tried to restrict access to reproductive health care…
…and for 95 years Planned Parenthood has been there, defending our rights and providing services.
95 years and counting.
Way down at the end of that article you linked to, it tells how Rep. Jackie Speier revealed that she is one of "those people" who had an abortion.
In "The Hill" newspaper, they led their coverage of this debate with Speier and her exchange . . . and it sure sounds like she got her debate on in a big way.
(For those who don't know Speier, she's been around politics for a long time. Back in the 1970s, she was a young aide to US Rep. Leo Ryan, and survived the attack at Jonestown that killed Ryan and precipitated the mass suicide there. She is one tough woman.)
Thanks for the links. Planned Parenthood was my lifeline and only healthcare when I was a teenager one step way from the street. They gave me the pill, they counseled me after a sexual assault and treated me for the herpes that resulted from same. They educated me. And yes, once thy even gave me an abortion. In gratitude, I've been donating to them every year since I grew up. But now, money is not enough. Planned parenthood needs action. Thanks for the kick in the butt.
living a million trillion miles away means I was unaware of planned parenthood - I will take a look through your links. But the comment above is enough to know that it is essential.
