Yeah, what she said...

I’ve been struggling to write a post about the "debate" over the mosque in Manhattan and I keep failing.

It’s rare for me to find myself unable to articulate my bitchitude, but that’s the space I find myself in on this issue at this moment.

Thank the gods for Michelle Chen's post Sensitive Bigotry and the “Ground Zero Mosque” Meme over at ColorLines!

Yeah, what she said.

Sigh.

I think a lot of people are having trouble articulating their feelings on this.

I am sick to my stomach that there is even a discussion over this. Just because some Muslims committed a crime it does not mean that all should have to suffer for it. A reporter question that if ground zero is hallowed ground then why are there strip clubs close to it and other places that people find offensive. To tell these people they can not build their center is ridiculous. White men in business suits took down our whole economy does this mean we should not trust any white men? The reasoning is stupid.

There's something here worth poking at about how certain people are allowed to be "sensitive," while others are dismissed for being "oversensitive."

Ultimately this is a local issue and should be decided as such. Unfortunately the GOP sees this issue as just another way to gin up their base and have amplified the controversy. The bigots and xenophobes attacking the mosque are akin to the teabaggers. Under the GOP's big tent, hate, as long as its directed at liberals is acceptable. The Grand Old Party is willing to do and say anything in their quest for electoral victory in November.

I am sick to my stomach with this also - it is SO blatantly a bigoted attack on these people's First Amendment rights of freedom of religion and speech, and I am just flabergasted by the folks (even in my own family!?!) who are spewing vitriol...

Here's the best retort I can come up with. Some terrorists are Muslim, therefore all Muslim are terrorist (by their reasoning). So, let's try their reasoning on this: Some pedophiles are Catholic, therefore all Catholics are pedophiles.

Sick to my stomach....

1st: Who all is funding this? There's not THAT many in the US and NY proper for this, imho. http://tinyurl.com/257nk3u

Also, building the mosque almost right at Ground Zero has very interesting issues that are not being discussed, most likely because it's not American history, but Spain's and southern Europe's history....that name of Cordoba House. I wonder how many have put together that Cordoba was THE Grand Mosque and the area more or less the center of it all back in the day when they were ruling southern Europe, before their most Catholic Majesties F & I kicked their asses out! http://tinyurl.com/gw4yr One can just google Cordoba, Islam and get all your own info. Yes, I say it's a slap in the face. And if more knew the meaning of Cordoba and it's history, less would be saying it's alright. This mosque would be like an inside coded joke, except the joke would be on the US!

And this iman of the proposed mosque...Lets just say he's a bit shady and has 3 answers for every 1question. His answer depends on who's asking them. That alone makes me give him the side eye. O_o

Just sayin'
