Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones 1949-2008…

Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones has died.

May she be remembered for her smile and her work.

And may her family find comfort in the memory of her life even as they grieve her passing.

I'm not from Ohio, but she was a favorite of mine, a strong voice in Congress and a shining example to women. She will be greatly missed. I'm imagining her watching this election cycle with Molly Ivins and Ann Richards.

This is a great loss for the US. While I disagreed with her in recent months, I really respected her and her work. She was a wonderful voice for Cleveland and working families in Ohio.

She was also the first woman of color on the powerful ways and means committee.

Its a huge loss for our nation as well as her constituents.

From Wikipedia, here's the greatest moment of her political career: "On January 6, 2005, she joined U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) in objecting to the certification of the 2004 U.S. presidential election results for Ohio."
I gather her politics may have been, overall, a little too conservative for me, but no doubt she showed a strength of character that many elected officials so sadly lack.
